The 5th November!

November 1st, 2009
by Humps

You may have heard that a group named “Artists Voice” have called for a 48hr protest against content theft in Second Life starting on the 5th November. They are calling on content creators to close up shop for 48hrs and further not to make any L$ transactions during this time. Personally I find this action to be ill judged and ultimately will in no way address the issues we are all currently facing. If you are interested I gab (at some length ) about my reasons on my other blog HERE.

There is a rather better idea circulating at the moment and one which has been rather more enthusiastically received by quite a few content creators. It has been suggested that we have a 48hr protest SALE. This is a heads up that Fab Pads will be joining in! If you are thinking about buying one of my builds you might want to wait a few days because you WILL get it cheaper on the 5th and 6th of November ;) Of course if you want it now and can’t wait feel free to keep on spending!  :D

More details to follow …sooooooon!

Virtualget.net

October 7th, 2009
by Humps

Just a quickie with regard to a scam site that has recently emerged!

A couple of my older builds are listed on the site. They are no longer for sale (discontinued stock from my old store) and certainly not with virtualget.

This is just a heads up that the only places you can get hold of my stuff are from the Fab Pads store in world or from XLStreet. No-one else is authorised to sell my builds. If you are offered my stuff from anywhere else please decline and whizz off an IM to let me know :)

With regards to Virtualget I strongly advise all of you not to sign up there. It would appear that they are offering items from many well known creators in SL for free. Except that they are not really free, In order to download the products you have to pay a subscription fee of about $15 a month. Given that every content creator I have spoken to has NOT given Virtualget authorisation to list their products I would be VERY wary about giving your payment details to them. IF this site is legitimate and you can indeed download the products then those products (certainly my products) are stolen. Secondly if you give them your credit card details you could well end up with no downloads and more charges than you bargained for.

The Builds!

September 7th, 2009
by Humps

I have added a new builds page where I will post the main sales image of each build as they become available. Each of the current builds now has a picture in there (at last!). I will post the main blurb here on the front page as I build new stuffs and then update that page so that there is an up to date catalogue of current builds for quick browsing so that you don’t have to trawl through reams of my wittering just to find a specific build.

Logical? Well it seemed so to me but then that was never any great measure of anything ;)

Fab Pads is Officially Open!!

September 3rd, 2009
by Humps

Yayyy! I feel like the Queen naming a ship ;)

Yes Fab Pads is now officially open. I have been fussing over the little details and realised I could carry on doing so for months if left to my own devices. Given that one or two of you have been clicking the SLURL and (I am happy to say) that one or two of you have been buying too (thank you :) ) then I thought I had better get on with it and fling the doors wide open.

Actually now that the store is functioning I may even get to post the rest of the current builds onto the blog. I just have not had much time to fit it all in lately.

So there we are …. 3rd September 2009. All systems are go!

The Ruined Abbey

August 28th, 2009
by Humps

Ok well I am nearly there and the store is very nearly ready for opening. With that in mind I thought it might be an idea to post some of the new builds.

First up is The Ruined Abbey.

I built this on a whim. If you know my stuff you will also know that I tend to like detail but like to build ‘clean’ builds. I am not really one for grunge or even industrial styles. However these styles are very popular. For every person that wants a swish modern apartment there is one that wants a themed medieval or olde worlde build. For every one of those there is someone else who would rather a grunge or industrial build. From a commercial point of view it makes sense to cover all the bets and cater for as many preferences as you can.

However can you build something in a style that you don’t particularly ‘get’? I wanted to find out and the idea for The Ruined Abbey was born. My RL partner is very much into the grunge look and knowing me better than most was not at all sure that I could pull it off. There was now an added challenge :)

Whilst building the  Abbey I had to stop myself from falling into the trap of the cliche ruined church where vampires festooned with crimson velvet might always be in your peripheral vision. In fact I had to tear the build down twice over because I could virtually see Christopher Lee and Bela Lugosi watching me build from their comfy armchairs in the vestry ;)   I was desperate to build something where, if a vampire should take up residence then he would be much more earthy and rather less romantic!

In the end I found that I REALLY enjoyed building the Abbey. I am particularly proud of it because it is most definitely not my usual style at all and was so far out of my comfort zone that I hardly recognise myself as the creator at all. Sometimes it is a very good thing to push yourself and to try something different.

Maybe it is a vanity build. Maybe it will sell and maybe it won’t but for once I really don’t care. I like it and it will always be a special build to me simply because it is so different. I really hope you like it too.

The Stats:

Footprint: 40m x 30m

Prim Count: 430 reduceable to 326

Price: L$ 3000

Here we go again!

August 11th, 2009
by Humps

Humps here!

I have decided to throw off the cloak of idleness and once again open up shop in Second Life.  After a hiatus of well over a year I have come to realise that my SL is not the same unless I am creating and selling. Of course I know that you don’t have to sell the stuff you make but, for me at least, there really is something quite soul destroying about building and making lovely things (at least I think they are lovely) only for them to sit and waste away in my inventory.

So here we are. The start of a new venture and I can only hope it will be as successful as the last time around. I am really looking forward to sharing the new builds with you all and hopefully welcoming some of you as customers.

Welcome to Fab Pads!
